Scheduled Maintenance

Annual Tribal SITS System Upgrade | Disruption Expected To SITS & SOLE Mar 31, 2026 09:00-17:00 BST

The University, alongside its partner, Tribal, will be completing annual upgrade works to the student records system, SITS, on Tuesday 31st March 2026 between 09:00 - 17:00.

Whilst the upgrade works take place, disruption can be expected to SITS, SOLE and other services reliant on student data to function.

Scheduled - We will be completing a fifth set of network infrastructure upgrade works on Sunday 22nd March between 07:00-11:00, following on from those completed over previous weeks.

These works will take place in the Edward Elgar, Charles Darwin and Sports Centre buildings on the St Johns Campus, in the University Arena on Severn Campus, and in the Hive and the Art House on City Campus.

These works are routine but will cause outages to all services that utilise connections to the University network and wider internet, for approximately 20 minutes in each affected building.

Updates to server estate | Risk of outages

Scheduled - As part of Digital Services maintenance weekend operations, Microsoft Windows updates and other security patching will be applied to servers across the University estate, including those that allow network access control to function.

During the weekend, 20-30 minute outages to University services and guest devices reliant on wired and wireless connections to the University network and wider internet are possible. Disruption is most likely to affect new devices connecting to the network and guest users, who may have trouble logging in during the maintenance window.

Whilst we cannot guarantee exactly when outages could occur, every effort will be made to limit them and buildings such as the University Arena hosting events scheduled in the University calendar will be protected.

These works will take place in the Hines, Edward Elgar, Sports Centre, Peirson and Sheila Scott buildings on the St Johns campus, in the Riverside building on Severn Campus, and in the Hive on City Campus.

These works are routine but will cause outages to all services that utilise connections to the University network and wider internet, for approximately 20 minutes in each affected building.

Networks in some University's residences will also be partially affected however these works will NOT disrupt connections to the University's Glide internet service.

Identified - We've received reports of disruption to using the Turnitin assessment plagiarism checker used in the submission of some University assignments.

This has been confirmed by Turnitin's own status page found here (https://turnitin.statuspage.io/).

This services operates in the cloud and falls outside of the University's direct control but you can follow their page above for further updates regarding their timescales for restoring this service to normal function.

These works will take place in the Binyon, Binyon North, Conference Centre, and Edward Elgar buildings on the St Johns campus, in the Elizabeth Casson building on Severn Campus, and in the Charles Hastings and Mulberry House buildings on City Campus.

These works are routine but will cause outages to all services that utilise connections to the University network and wider internet, for approximately 20 minutes in each affected building.

Networks in University's residences across all campuses will also be partially affected however these works will NOT disrupt connections to the University's Glide internet service.
